Today we took a breath and thought about the ground we've covered so far.
I asked everyone to scroll down to the start of this blog and read over the entries so far.
We've been focusing on writing but much of the same principles apply to presentations which we will be looking at soon.
I've also asked people to start thinking about their two pieces of writing for the course. You can post possible suggestions here - it may help other students work out what they can do.
I gave out a handout which gave some more detailed guidelines for the writing assessments. If you missed the class today email me at jerryoneill@stevenson.ac.uk and I'll send you the handout as an attachment.

I'm going to do the opinion based essay on 'Post-Contemporary Era of Architecture and Design'..will discuss whether we've already reached the end of creativity in architecture and design and what will be next..
Hey there Jerry!
What a lot of great links there are on this page, I have to say I found the booklet on how to write an essay very helpful in terms of ideas of how to plan an essay.
I think I will continue to develop the facts on my education essay.
There was more I wanted to cover, but I didn't want to get to bogged down in quotes, and by the time I had stopped for a break the first paragraph was looking pretty long.
I've yet to decide on what to do on my opinion based essay.
Hi there!!!
So, two pieces, one factual based, one opinion based, but both in the for of essays. I know we've been looking into essays quite extensively, but what about reports? I know there's supossed to be not much difference with a fat based essay, but I've never done any, and I'm not quite sure on how to produce one. Will we be looking into them at some stage?

i dont know what i want to do my two pieces of writing on yet, i would like to keep them seperate from other classes though to give myself more practise on essay writing.
Hi Jerry, as we already discussed, I could write one on my essays about the Steiner and Montessori schools. Or maybe choose one of them as two might be too much for an essay, probably will do pro and contra on the methods.
I'm finding writing essay more difficult that i thought it might be. Probably it's a language thing. I might try to follow Your links and try and try and try till i'll creat something more like essay. Thanks for links. I think that's very good idea.
My Reflection.
I'm finding essay writing harder than I previously did.
The planning stages make me want to find out as much as I can and hopefully trim the information down as I progress. The problem arises because research begats more research, and it seems never to end. The internet is addictive.
For example, I thought I could do an essay about a Pink Floyd lyric, and now through research, I've come across a documentary about the song and the people involved, and since it covered what I had hoped to write, I found myself watching the documentary a few times and also trying to transcribe it. It took a while.
Not a good idea when the essay is due in a couple of days.
Anyway, I think this has been a lesson in itself. I need better planning for future essay planning.
Fact based essay. Opinion essay.
Not sure on which particular subject to go for, but I really want to tie in my Amsterdam-based assignments for Investigating Europe, and for History.
In think Amsterdam will provide an interesting subject matter without me moving too far afield.
I think i am going to focus on the topic of digital libraries across the Europe and in particular Europeana-new digital project that will combine all european recources into one user friendly interface, allowing us to investigate the subject from different directions.
