My idea is quite set for my fact based essay. I intend on writing about the rise and fall of "High Rise Glasgow". Some ideas going round my head are to think of why tower blocks came to be, pros and cons, viewpoints of present and former residents, and where the future is headed for them.....
As for the opinion based essay, I am still a wee bit undecided what avenue to take with it. I expect to follow on from the factual essay by looking at the issue of housing more in general, from social housing to private housing, the difficulties on getting into the housing ladder, be it through social housing landlords and point scoring systems to get a flat to rent, to the private sector, the easiness of the past to buy a house, and the ever increasing difficulties getting to buy a house now in the private sector. We'll see how it goes.
This sounds good Chris. Think through the opinion-based one a bit more. This type of essay will often take a topical issue and look at various sides of the argument.
for my factual based essay i am going to write about the progression of trance music. this is a subject i am passionate about and i am hoping that this will help make research easier. i have extensive knowledge about the music itself but where it came from and how it became popular i am interested to find out.
as for the opinion based essay i am not sure. possibly some environmental issue. these issues i feel strongly about and i think that i will produce better work writing about something i am interested in (i hope). now i have to just work on narrowing it down to one managable topic.
Thanks for that. Sounds like you're narrowing it down well. Have a browse through the various resources that Alma mentioned for your environmental-issue essay. Look at some of the articles on spiked.com as well.
The purpose of this blog is to keep some kind of record of our learning as we progress through the year. My aim is to write a brief summary and reflection of each lesson. I may also add in useful links and other bits and pieces.
